Show Me the Way was a group project started in 2016 as a team of 6, all in Bellecour Ecole. The first version the game was build in a few weeks using Unity. Without much skills, we were still able to develop a playable prototype:
With this project considered as a vertical slice, we learned a lot through our mistakes and it really motivated the whole team to create a second version for the next year.
Game Design
Show me the Way takes place in an Inca temple full of puzzles and narrative rooms. Also, as written in the description, SMTW is a 2 player "cross platform" game which means you can only play the game with one player on PC and another using the Android game app. Once both connected, players will be able to interact via the game features. For example ; when the phone user taps on his screen, it will open a door for the PC player.
Vea is a mysterious flying orb following the player (on PC). It symbolise the link between the 2 players and it can also give them feedbacks when interacting.
Narration
Pierre-Alexandre GERBET and Mathieu SIBOULOTTE worked on the story of SMTW. Mathieu even went further by creating an introduction cinematic for the game:
"On May 15, 1963, aboard the Mercury 7 capsule, Gordon Cooper entered the legend by becoming the last American astronaut to travel alone in space.

From space, he photographs dark areas in the ocean and anomalies on land.

He takes the opportunity to make mysterious maps on his return, hoping that they lead to unknown places and sunken boats that may contain fabulous treasures.

After his death in 2004, more than a hundred treasure maps were found in his office.

One of them falls by chance into the hands of an adventurer, leading him to the Andes mountains, land of the Incas.

With the help of a local guide, he crosses the huge mountain dam, braving the elements and wildlife... Until they find the entrance of an unmapped temple lost in the mist.

Trembling with excitement the adventurer no longer waits for his guide and decides to enter the temple with the door shutting behind him..."
While playing Show the Way, the player may come across frescoes. This feature forces the players to communicate in order to both understand the events of temple since all the narration is written on the Android application.
3D Art - Menu
I had the opportunity to create several 3D meshes (especially structural) using Autodesk Maya. With the help of Dorian Montavid, we managed to apply textures / materials directly in Unity.
I also created the menu of Show me the Way ; scene, buttons, level art... My idea was to incorporate the entire UI in a three dimensional space for a purely aesthetic purpose
Events
The team had the chance to join 2 main events in Lyon, to present the final aspect of Show me the Way :

-
Japan & Geektouch 2018
-
Student Game Show 2018
For both events, I've designed "visit cards" with our contacts which proved to be very useful since we could get in touch with journalists and fans!
These events taught me a lot about communicating a project to the public and knowing how to take advantage of the feedback from our community to improve the project afterwards!
